Chronic Pain and Illness Therapy for Teenagers
Youth and teenagers can commonly have chronic symptoms including headaches, migraines, back pain, neck pain, abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue, as well as many other physical symptoms.
Often these chronic symptoms in adolescents do not occur from damage or disease in their body, but due to a felt sense of danger and dysregulation in the brain and nervous system.
Being a child or teenagers is hard! Adolescents face mental health concerns, pressures to succeed, loneliness or isolation, relationship issues with parents or friends, bullying, difficulties processing emotions, trauma, and difficulties with learning in school. All of these concerns can cause children and teenagers to have a felt sense of danger that can lead to chronic pain and illness being triggered and perpetuated. A psychological approach to treating chronic pain and symptoms has been shown to be effective in reducing or eliminating chronic pain and symptoms1
